A TIME FOR MOURNING

Today will be marked as a miserable day in our nation's history. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's pardon of former president Joseph Estrada, granted without need of a public admission of guilt, is a mockery of justice and an insult to all Filipinos. It is a reflection of the culture of transactional politics that has characterized GMA's regime, which has brought our country to a state of moral bankruptcy.

We ask every citizen to join us in mourning the death of justice in our country. Tie black ribbons to your vehicles and wear black every Friday starting today. Let us paint this nation's heart black, for that is its color at its core. Those in government who often claim respect for the rule of law and who are sworn to uphold it are the very ones who pervert it.

Let us also stop according our government officials – the President, Vice-President, Cabinet Secretaries, Senators, Congressmen, Governors, and Mayors allied with GMA, the honor they do not deserve. Ginagago na tayo. The least we can do is to STOP calling them "honorable", refuse to shake their hands, or stand up or clap for them at their public appearances.

Each one of us should ask our Governor, Mayor, and Congressman of whatever party affiliation, "Pumunta ka ba sa Malacanang?" and "Nakatanggap ka ba?" With the ease by which they offend our sensibilities and basic decency, they deserve no less than our ostracism.

To our OFWs who have kept our economy afloat with your sacrifice and hard-earned remittances, we ask that you express your outrage through email s that you are so good at sending out around the world. Please send messages of indignation to Philippine embassies and consulates in your host countries. Work to use your influence over your families to boot out corrupt officials in 2010. Help us express global outrage at the impunity with which an illegitimate president rules.

Sadly, the reason we are in this state of moral bankruptcy today is because we have been indirect accomplices in the past through our silence.

It’s time to break our silence. Tama na. Sobra na. Hindi na ako magpapagago!

Among Ed and his 500K gift, what is he going to do with it - Art Arcilla

Initially, he was in a quandary where the money really came from. Then
voila! 13 days after the gift giving event that occured at the palace
grounds, he was formally informed that the generous donor was after all
the League of Provinces of the Philippines. This seemingly santa claus
organization may typify a nice low key kind- hearted individual who
would unselfishly give 500,000 pesos in a bag and then not even wanting to
be recognized for this generous gesture. Very nice indeed for a
commendable act!

But who would believe this crap?

This is what being fed to us, all filipinos, most especially (and
ironically) to our youngs, who are our future. I feel insulted and very
concerned.

Tommorrow's negative ramification of this, which may could possibly be
happening today, is that we and our youngs could be bound to be
insensitive to the "not so good things" such as corruptions and dishonesty,
and may be liable to instinctively call this as a "normal and everyday
kind'a thing"... That would really be sad.

So what would Among Ed do with this money kept at the provincial vault?
Other mayors and officials are complaining that he is too preoccupied
with this issue, such that he seems to neglect his job priorities.
Projects such as signing development contracts, building schools, purchase
of ambulances, use the 500K to buy medicines and all the nice things.
Unfortunately, they also clamor for changes in the management of the
multi- million quarry money tax collections (this makes me laugh!).

However, guess, where the sensitivity is and geared to be heading to?

500K is not even peanuts compared to restoration of integrity. And
close to being a single piece of peanut compared to government's
transparent and clean management of tax collectibles, especially from the quarry
industry. Honesty will automatically breed good projects in many forms,
including care for the poor and the needy.

Among Ed, if I were you, not until you honestly concur where the origin
is, I will keep that bagful of hot potato inside the provincial vault.
And hopefully, if this safeguarded potato will have a major impact in
the restoration of people's trust in the government and that is the
only major project you may had accomplished, in my opinion, that would be
more than enough of an accomplishment.

Use the 500K In Building Values, A Proposal - Aida Aguas

Ulitan ke ing munikala ku. Please allow me to reiterate my proposal regarding the proper, moral, legal, productive, lasting utilization of the Half a Million Peso manna from Hell or from Heaven. Let us choose and make the latter and make true of the name by making it bear moral fruits for everybody including the coming generations. In case there will be more. The way things are happening in the world now we are not sure if this earth will still be around for any coming generation.
Pota pu deng perang aren ilang magligtas king Yatu. Male tamu itang Lady in White ya pin ing Birhen Maria, itang pepalto kari Sister Lucy karin Fatima. Who knows the BVM might have handed Pampanga the key to our earthly salvation. Anya, gamitan la deng perang aren, papanganakan la pang dakal.

First, after recording their serial numbers and origin from the CB and so forth and documenting them in the legal way, let Kapampangan and other Filipino artists, portray them in their field of artistry. Photography, painting, film, video, theatre, poetry, etc. Literary contests could be held about them. Essay or sanese, lays, debates, crissotan. Examples: What should be done with this money?, How can we stop corruption? Why is corruption bad for us?

Second, invest the money so it will generate more income which will be needed in funding the prizes for the winners.

Third, sports or athletics activities can be held too. Basketball and other games, winners will be those who played morally. I watched my grandaughter's school basketball competition once, and I witnessed her being elbowed and pushed by a rival player. After the game we saw my grandaughter talking with that player. Ali mi balu nung nang sinabi na, she walked with her going out of the gym, talking with her in a manner that made me think they were friends. The girl and her mother were quiet, shyly avoiding my grandaughter's eyes, ala lang sinai. They seemed to have been humbled and the younger one pacified. Such scenes are examples of how we elders learn from the youth. My grandaughter who was thirteen years old then made us proud not of them becoming district champion in basketball, but of her humble and peaceful way of expressing her feelings after being violated and harmed to someone who did the offense.

Makanini pu ing metung nang buring sabyan nng Peaceful Currculum a sinulat nang minuna. Sana makanini lang magamit ding pera.

I hope I am making sense.

An Open Letter To Among Ed, The Pampanga Provincial Board, and all Kapampangan People - Aida Aguas

An Open Letter To Among Ed, The Pampanga Provincial Board, and all Kapampangan People
Among Ed And The Media

I see a big difference now in the way that some members of the media address and describe Governor Among Ed. Before the now talk of the Philippines handing of the bagfilled with half a million peso to him at Malacanang Palace, he was described as suspended priest, and ex-priest, now he is identified as priest-on-leave. The latter looks more respectable. Manila journalists use the priest-on-leave which is more refine and not bitter as apalya.

The moderator of Pamagcusa.org must be needing help in collecting and posting articles about Pampanga Nation. Now that Pampanga's Governor is always in almost all of the Philippine papers. We as Kapampangans are making a seemingly turning-point in our modern history. We have always been a Great Nation of the archipelago, but, unlike before when we had to always justify what some kabalen historic figures did in the past or boast to our outmost articulation our compatriots contribution to our country, now it is them, the people of the seat of government of the Philippine State who volunteer and extend their respect to us, the Kapampangans.

For me, Among Eddie Tongol Panlilio did the best decision in his life when he decided to accept the candidacy for the Pamapanga nation's governorship. The Kapampangan people did one of their best historic and significant contribution to the world's political and social history when they united and put him to his present position. This is the Kapampangan Pride. This is the Mayabang a Kapampangan. This is our Kapampangan Identity. Dignity and integrity, these were the contents of our ancestress's sane or chanting. These is what they bequeathed to us, our sense of pride. Most culture had chants before only few still do them, perhaps we should revive ours which had long been extinct.

Now that Among has shown and modelled how one's dignity and integrity can be valued and protected, do we as a people not owe it to ourselves and our youth who have been so much affected and perhaps traumatized by the wrong models and examples, including violence and terroristic acts of bribery, lies, dishonesty, deprivation of correct education, murders, salvaging and most especially the basic needs not excluding love and care - to continue working for the return of our traditional values, beliefs, and practices?

I suggest that if that half a million peso has no return address, we can make it as a memorial and reminder in fighting corruption by building more day care centers and pre-schools which will revive, promote our Kapampangan Heritage and Culture contained in a Peaceful Curriculum.

Among mentioned that one of the reasons why he accepted the money was his thought of the funding of Pampanga's child care centers, then why don't we do that now? Make the fight against terrorism where corruption and graft are part of by teaching our own cultural, moral and traditional values. The youth particularly those who are in the early childhood stage will make Among Ed's goals and visions last forever.

Pagmaragul ku Kapampangan ku. Kapampanga marangal at malugud.

Proud to be a Filipino: ?... Kapampangan: Absolutely! - Art Arcilla

After watching the news on TFC today (10/13/07) and the
reported "brown bag give-aways" given to local governors and officials
inside the Malacanang grounds, the denials of many high ranking palace
officials that they did not know where the money came from, however some
reportedly saying that "really" there is nothing wrong with governors
getting unsolicited sum of money (even in a brown bag), that all the other
governors alledgely said (as of todate) that they did not received
anything, and that it was only Governor Panlilio who dared to asked "what
this money is intended for, so that it will be righteously disbursed
and accounted"... for a few moments I felt not so proud to be a
Filipino.

Where are the Jovito Salongas, the Raul Manglapuses, the Dioknos, the
Diosdado Macapagals, the Ramon Magsaysays, Claro M Rectos, Gerry Roxases
and even all the young Ferdinand Marcoses? Where are the other elected
people who honestly and unbiasely care about people...

In spite of all of these, and then for what Among Ed have shown and
done which may hopefully set an example to other many elected officials
like him, I am proud to be a Kapampangan, much prouder than ever...
manyaman pu queng kilub!!!

Among Ed's Secret to Heaven - Art Arcilla

In one of the sessions during the annual retreats that I
had in Malvern, Pennsylvania, our Retreat Director reminded us, we the
retreatants, what Jesus Christ will be asking before we go to heaven. The
questions goes like these: Did you feed me? Did you clothe me? Did you
comfort me?...

I am becoming a keen observer of Among Ed, not only about his dress
code (which I admire so much), but to the many plans and programs he has
for the poor and the needy. And how he elevated the priority of this
initiative on his administration's list of things to do. My first
impression of Among Ed is that he honestly care about our less fortunate
cabalens. And the best thing about it is, he expeditiously does something
about it.

So, do you know one of Among Ed's secret passport to heaven? By really
understanding, that Jesus Christ always associating himself with the
poor, and us saying "yes" to his simple questions.

Among Ed's Dress Code - Art Arcilla

I am quite amused with Governor Panlilio's choice of clothes
in performing his daily or even formal duties. I still have yet to see
him wear formal clothes such as designer barongs like most of our
distinguished senators and representatives regularly wear in office in
performing their decently paid goverment jobs. But come to think of it, it
might be worth something for our dear senators to try for once or even
twice, wear blue jeans with a matching regular t-shirts or polo shirts.
They may made find that this "no nonsense outfit" works like magic
such that they can comfortably and honestly serve the very people whom I
think maybe responsible for their temporary casual government
employment. Just a thought...

Things Filipinos Living Abroad can do for the Philippines

Things Filipinos Living Abroad can do for the Philippines

Dear Fellow Filipinos,

Good day to all of you!

Recently, I came across an article which talks
about the main reasons why India is slowly but
surely growing into a world power with a fast
developing economy. One of the major reasons cited
by the article is the fact that many Indians who
have left to study, work or live abroad have now
started to go back and help their country through
various means. In an interview that I watched at
CNN, many Indian youth have expressed that they want
to study or work abroad just like Filipinos but the
only difference is they see themselves coming back
after a few years to bring back what they learned to
help their country.

As I thought about this, I realized that we
can learn much from the Indians. Imagine if every
Filipino working or living abroad would just do his
or her own small share towards helping our country,
then I think in a few years we could also expect
that our country would grow and not be left behind
by our Asian neighbors like Vietnam, Thailand, China
and India. I thought of suggesting some easy ways
that Filipinos living abroad can help our country
and I hope that you will consider doing some of
these suggestions to help our Philippines:

1.) Volunteer your time, talents and skills.
Yes, you can volunteer for Philippine based Non
Profit Organizations or foundations even if you are
abroad. How? By doing things over the internet. For
example, many Non-Profits need accountants who can
help them fix up their financials or if you are good
at designing websites or promotional materials, you
can also offer your services to help promote the
causes that the Non-Profits are currently working
on. Another thing needed by non-profits here is to
promote their cause to Filipinos abroad, you can
volunteer your time to be their overseas Filipino
champion who can help them reach many more Filipinos
living abroad. Just think about what you can do and
I'm sure there are a lot of foundations who would be
happy to receive help from you.

2.) Be an AHON Foundation Coordinator. AHON
Foundation helps build public elementary school
libraries all over the Philippines. Recently, DHL
agreed to support AHON by agreeing to ship books in
good condition from the mainland United States to
the Philippines for free! However, we would need
coordinators who can help us organize a book drive,
collect books in their areas and be a pick-up point
for DHL. U.S. Libraries and schools usually change
their books every 3 years and I'm sure there are so
many good books that Filipino students can still use
if we can just bring them here in the Philippines.
If you are interested to be an AHON Foundation
Coordinator in the U.S., please email Donna Odra at
dmodra@yahoo.com or you can visit our site at
www.ahonfoundation.blogspot.com .

3.) Invest in the Philippines. I recently
learned from a friend that a sure sign that the
economy is growing is the fact that there is a
property boom. Looking at newspapers, you can see
condominiums, townhouses and subdivisions being
developed left and right. Moreover, my friend tells
me that by investing in real estate property, you
not only help provide jobs to those who build the
condominiums but a multiplier effect happens since
you also provide jobs to suppliers of cement, steel
and other materials used to develop property. Of
course there are investments scams and shams thats
why you need to check first before you invest, it
might be good to ask your relatives who live here to
check so that you don't rely on just what you see
over the internet.

4.) Blog Good Things about the Philippines.
With so many free blog sites available, its now very
easy to develop and maintain a blog. Imagine if all
of us during our free time become the pseudo-Tourism
secretary and create and maintain a blog that would
showcase nice things, places and people in the
Philippines, we would be able to easily market the
Philippines as a beautiful place to visit for
foreigners. This will also counteract the notion
that the Philippines is unsafe and unsanitary.
Moreover, lets show that our country is not just a
place for foreigners to find mail to order brides or
domestic helpers. Through our own blogs lets
showcase what it is to be truly Filipino. Once you
are finished with developing and updating your blog,
email an invitation to view it to all your friends
especially to those who don't know much about the
Philippines. Hopefully, the next time someone
Googles the Philippines,he would read about how
beautiful our country and its people is and would
feel that he would miss half of his life if he
didn't find the time to visit our country.

5.) Sponsor a poor Filipino Scholar. I know
this sounds like a cliche but by investing in
education, the effects are tremendous. By supporting
a well-deserving but financially disadvantaged
Filipino Scholar, you not only help him finish his
education but you also help his present family and
future family. In short, by helping a Filipino youth
finish college there is a multiplier effect that
happens since you now provide him with a better
opportunity to find a good job that would in turn
help him provide a better life to his or her present
family and eventually his future family. By giving
the gift of quality education, you help solve
poverty not by just one person at a time but by one
family at a time. How much does it cost to help a
Filipino youth to finish college? Just US $500.00 a
year or less than US $ 2.00 a day. If you want to
help, just email Pathways to Higher
Education-Philippines at snubla@ateneo.edu or you
can visit our site at www.pathwaysphilippines.org

6.) Visit the Philippines. I remember when I
was flying back home from Hong Kong last year, my
seatmate in the plane was a Filipino who has lived
in L.A. for the past 35 years of his life and not
one single time did he ever find the chance to visit
the Philippines in those 35 years. He was very
excited and I told him that many has changed since
then, that's why every chance that I get to meet a
Filipino living abroard I strongly encourage them to
visit the Philippines since you not only get a
renewed sense of nationalism but by visiting you
also get to see how many things we can still do to
help our country. If you solely rely on what you see
on the internet or what you watch through TFC, Pinoy
TV or the Mabuhay Channel, this wouldn't be enough
for you to really understand what is happening in
our country. In the economic side of this, by
visiting you spend money in the Philippines which
then helps prop up the economy and provide more
employment to Filipinos. And of course, I'm sure
your relatives would love to see you again and
prepare a small feast of adobo, lechon and sinigang
for you... so don't wait for 30 years! The
Philippines would certainly welcome you back with
open arms :)

7.) Mentor a Filipino Youth Online. A good
friend of mine based in Koronadal City, South
Cotabato started a few years back a very innovative
online mentoring system by which Filipinos living
and working abroad could help impart good advice to
Filipino College students and serve as their mentor
to guide them in making their decisions and in
charting a good path in life. The mentoring happened
online through emails and chats, now you can even
talk to each other through Skype or even Yahoo
Messenger. If you have the time and wisdom to share
with our Filipino youth, you may want to consider
being an Online Mentor and help ensure that the
Filipino youth of today will achieve a better and
brighter future. If you would like to be a mentor or
learn more about this program, you can email Jing
Ureta at mc_ureta@yahoo.com or
personnel@ndmu.edu.ph .

8.) Teach your children the language and
culture of the Philippines. A few months ago, I met
a couple who migrated to Australia 15 years ago and
started their family there. When I talked to their
children who grew up there and were 8 and 10 years
old already, I was amazed that they could speak
fluent Tagalog and they really knew so many things
about the Philippines. They even knew how to sing
the Philippine National Anthem despite the fact that
it was only their first time to visit the country. I
hope that many Filipino families would also teach
their children our culture and heritage so that they
can grow up with a sense of Filipino identity
wherever they may go. Its very hard to teach someone
to love the Philippines and contribute to
nation-building if he wasn't raised up to believe
that he is a Filipino in the first place.

9.) Send this email to your friends who work
or live abroad. In my encounters and talks with
Filipinos living or working abroad, they have always
told me that they really want to help and be part of
nation-building but they just don't know how. Now,
through this email we can help by presenting some
concrete ways by which Filipinos can keep in touch
with our country and be part of our efforts to make
this nation great again. I've always believed that
by doing one good small thing at a time, great
things can eventually happen!

Thank you very much for your time in reading
this email! :) May you have a good day! :)

Happy National Heroes Day! :)

Sincerely,

Harvey S. Keh

And the other thing that they can't accept is, how is it that what they call the Indians, that they feel for the country and they're working for their people and that this Indian is governing well? This is something they can't tolerate. Two facts: the last time that Bolivia had a budget surplus was in the 1960s during a boom, a tin boom, and we've been over sixty years always with a fiscal deficit. Last year, for the first time, in my first year of government, we have a budget surplus, and Bolivia's international reserves never were more than $1 billion. And this year we're approaching $5 billion in international reserves. And the modification of the hydrocarbons gas and oil law, which cost us blood, thereafter the nationalization of gas and oil, has allowed Bolivia to improve our revenues, the revenues for the country. An example: in 2005, Bolivia only received $300 million -- $300 million in 2005 in revenues from state gas and oil, and this year we're going to be receiving more than $2 billion in revenues from gas and oil. And this is something they can't accept
