PRESS RELEASE

Capitol distributes quarry shares

City of San Fernando – A total of Php 33,147,000.00 was handed over by Gov. Eddie Panlilio to barangay officials and representatives of the mayors in municipalities and barangays where quarrying operations are held.

The giving out of shares was conducted yesterday at the Benigno Aquino Hall wherein the mentioned amount represented the 6-month share of the 10 municipalities and 40 barangays from the quarry income.

The distribution of quarry shares was put on hold since November 2007 pending the resolution of the Executive Department’s petition for the suspension of the implementation of Ordinance 176.

The distribution yesterday was in lieu of the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the implementation of Ordinance 176 issued by the Regional Trial Court here on May 13, 2008. The distribution was based on the old ordinance that provides for a 30-30-40 percent sharing scheme based on the P150.00 sand tax for the province, municipality and barangay, respectively.

The municipality of Porac and barangay Manibaug-Pasig, also in Porac, received the lion’s share, receiving P12M and P4M respectively. According to Chairman Marcelino Escoto of Manibaug-Pasig, the issuance of the funds will facilitate the early release of the Philhealth cards for his constituents, payment of electric bills and the immediate implementation of his Balik-Barangay program.

The total shares given to the municipalities are: Bacolor – Php 864,000; Floridablanca – Php 2, 868,750; Lubao – Php 603,000; Mabalacat – Php 225,000; Macabebe – Php 2,250; Mexico – Php 96,750; Minalin- Php137,250; Porac - Php12, 141,000; San Simon- Php 38,250; and Sta. Rita- Php 342,750. /PIO
